Food for Thought in Draper

Food for Thought

I haven’t always been a downtown dweller.  For the first year of marriage, Josh and I lived in Draper.  For those of you who primarily stick to the downtown scene, Draper is about 25 minutes south of downtown Salt Lake.  While this commercialized suburb mainly hails popular food chains and strip malls, there are a couple cosy local spots to hit up.  Food for Thought, serves up brunch foods, and remains a little saving grace in the old-town area of Draper.

This quaint little house-cafe lies next to the town hall and library. Not far away you may see cows and homes from the turn of the century.  This sort of area in Draper  is now, unfortunately, rare but at least it still exists.  You can imagine what Draper used to be like with lots of open lands, farm-style homes, and a tight-knit community.

A month or so back, my girl friends and I went out for a little long-distance breakfast (you can read more about our long-distance dinners here).  We carpooled through blizzard like conditions in hopes of some different scenery and a warm breakfast.  The whole drive over I was keeping my fingers crossed that this little cafe was still as tasty as I had remembered it being years ago.

Luckily, the food was still as comforting as I remembered and they were able to meet our very urban needs as many of us made special requests like for non-drop coffee or gluten free options.  It seemed as if they don’t serve coffee of any kind around that neck of the woods, though they were pleased to serve it to us!  And they did in fact have a couple salads that were gluten free, possibly just by chance but they did have the option none-the-less.

Though everyone enjoyed their meals, I must say that their French Toast was especially delicious.  It was oven baked with pecans and served with a creme anglaise sauce.  You will also find quiche, crepes, eggs, sandwiches and salads on the menu.  And you can’t leave without picking up a sweet treat to go, like their house-made marshmallows and chocolates.

If you’re wanting a little brunch adventure outside of the downtown scene, you’ll have to give this little spot a try!  After returning, I think we will be visiting the cosy cafe more often!
