For all of those lovely, creative folks coming into Salt Lake City for Alt Summit this week, I put together a little dining guide for you.
First I want to tell you just a bit about our dining and drinking scene. There are a lot of misconceptions about food and drink in Utah. First of all, you can get a good drink in Utah, perhaps even a drink you’ll be thinking about when you return to your home state. Secondly, our emerging food scene is especially note worthy, as we have a growing number of passionate food enthusiasts starting small businesses and restaurants, from European style marmalades, to the finest old world Salami, and modern tapas restaurants. I think you’re going to love the food and drinks here in Utah!
The restaurants below are all near downtown or within a 12 minute drive. Also, feel free to tweet me @slcfoodie if you have any restaurant, coffee, cocktail, or any food-related questions while you’re here!! And for those going on the Salt Lake City Food-Tour, I’ll be the one hosting you! I look forward to meeting several of you and I really hope you enjoy our beautiful city!

Minor quibble. Real Salt Comes from deposits laid during the Jurasic period and is located in Central Utah. It does not come from the Great Salt Lake. Salt from the great salt lake cannot be guaranteed in purity and while Morton does have evaporation ponds here their table salt also does not come from the lake. Lake salt is used for other needs like fertilizers.
Andrew, I was actually wondering about that when I wrote it. Thanks for the clarification!
Wow, what a wonderful list. I’m so happy + thankful you posted this! I love to have some great restaurant recommendations from a local when I visit somewhere new. I cannot wait to try a few of these during Alt. I am bummed I cannot go on your food tour (I now have to leave early on saturday am) but I am sure it is going to be wonderful!

Love the list! Thanks for compiling this. One question.. Where is Meditrina on the roll? They’re a home run every time (pun intended) 😉
I haven’t had very many experiences there but the ones I’ve had I felt the food was just mediocre. I will have to go back for another try soon. Thanks for the heads up Kristina!
