Emperor’s Tea

Reviewed by Hannah

I’m not sure when my love for tea began. Looking back, it’s hard for me to remember summers without drinking tall glasses of iced tea with lemon while sitting on our deck or winters spent snuggled under blankets, reading books without a steaming cup of hot tea to sip. Tea has always been one of my favorite beverages.

I’m excited to share a local tea company with you, The Emperor’s Tea. The Emperor’s Tea offers an impressive variety of premium loose leaf teas, as well as health, wellness and beauty products. Recently, I was able to try two of their tea products: Organic Oolong Tea and Organic Shu Mee White Tea.

I discovered Oolong tea while I was in college. It’s milder than black tea (like Earl Grey or English Breakfast) but has a more robust flavor than green tea. My favorite way to enjoy Oolong tea is to prepare it plain without any sweeteners or added flavors. The Emperor’s Tea Organic Oolong is warm and smooth with just a subtle nutty flavor. It’s a great tea to prepare in the morning and enjoy with breakfast. If you aren’t sure about drinking plain tea, place a sprig of mint and a touch of lemon zest to a cup of Oolong for some added flavor. I don’t like adding sugar to my tea, but if you do prefer a sweeter taste, try a drop of honey or agave nectar.

I enjoy white tea because it has a very light flavor. While black, green, and oolong teas undergo processes of wilting, bruising, oxidation and drying, white tea is often simply steamed and dried. The Organic Shu Mee White Tea has the light flavor that I love with a slightly sweet taste. After sipping this tea hot, I decided try it as an iced tea:

Shu Mee White Tea Iced with fruit

8 cups of water

8 tsp of The Emperor’s Tea Organic Shu Mee White Tea

1 lemon, sliced

½ cup of blackberries

½ peach, sliced

4 sprigs of mint (or more if you really like mint)

Slice the lemon and peach. Place on a parchment lined, flat baking sheet along with the blackberries and set them in the freezer over night. Prepare the tea per the directions on the package and allow to cool in fridge for about an hour. Add frozen fruit, let sit for 2-3 more hours to allow the fruit to sweeten the tea. Serve over ice.

If you prefer your tea a bit sweeter, feel free to add honey or agave nectar prior to serving.
