Treatment SLC – An Exploration of Narrative through Sundance

Reviewed by Josh

Josh and I had the extreme pleasure of curating a 3 day food experience for a group coming in town for Sundance.  After much thought and hours of planning we brought out our favorite foods and folks in the local food scene to entertain and sustain our guests.

This group was in town for Treatment, an Exploration of Narrative.  Actually, it was a group of Christian pastors who wanted to explore culture through film. 35 folks came into Salt Lake City with little or no perception of what the city would be like and definitely no preconceived positive thoughts regarding local food here.  But after the first meal (simple Caputo’s sandwiches with Uinta beer or Charming Beard Coffee) their minds changed seeing the expanding horizon of the food scene and culture in our city.

Movies most definitely make you hungry, but apparently they also make you thirsty.  We went through a packed fridge of Uinta’s top brews as well as some great cocktails made with by Scott Gardner, of Finca, using High West Whiskey and High West’s 7000′ Vodka.  Josh had the pleasure of naming them – the Rockwell and the Smithson.  Can you Utah trivia buffs guess why he chose those names?

The morning gatherings consisted of Charming Beard Coffee, local pastries like the Kouing Aman from Les Madeleines, artisan bread from Breadsong, and an assortment of jams and marmalades from Amour Spreads.  Some of our favorite local products kicked off the day right leaving folks well caffeinated and pleasantly full.

Night time gatherings held a plethora of local products from Beehive Cheese to Creminelli Salami and of course a big tasty meal from Adam Kreisel, a favorite local chef. We spoiled the group with lamb stew, chicken confit, and the company of the greatest food personalities in our city like Matt Caputo.  The folks attending Treatment got a mouth full of all the best.

Several movies and meals later, our guests made toasts to the very special folks in the food community who provided such delicious meals and who add immensely to the local culture of Salt Lake City.

Special thanks to Matt Caputo of Caputo’s Market, Uinta Brewing, High West Whiskey, Beehive CheeseSalt Lake Magazine, Amour Spreads, Breadsong, Les Madeleines, Evan Coulombe of Breadsong, Nash Martinez and last but certainly not least, Adam Kreisel of Chaia Cucina Catering.
