If you’ve been reading my blog for any amount of time, you know that I’m a grocery store addict. I love a good grocery store. It’s strange but I have a few friends who share in this addiction with me, so at least I’m not alone. The new City Creek Harmons in downtown Salt Lake is absolutely gorgeous and so much fun to peruse around. I could spend a good chunk of time browsing the fresh produce or gazing up and down the high shelves of packaged goods.
Last week I had the pleasure of getting a private tour of the new City Creek store by the Harmons brothers themselves. Here are a few highlights of their store.
- variety of turkey options
- dry aged beef
- large selection of specialty cheese including raw milk cheese from Rock Hill Cheese
- artisan breads
- award winning pastry chef
- lots of locally sourced products
- cooking classes including Cuban cooking and Book Club cooking
- space for private events
- option to dine in the store with lots of prepared foods and seating with a view of the city
- gelato!!
- check-out lines with only healthy snacks

Shopping is salt lake has gotten better the last few years. So excited about the Harmon’s at city creek. they have items that are hard to find in the area at a price you can afford. I love though that I can go to Caputo’s and get wonderful imports but shopping and buying local has become more of my focus. Liberty Fresh has some of the best items out there.
love shopping at grocery stores too! even “window shopping” and perusing and imagining new dishes. it’s relaxing
Glad to know I’m not alone in my grocery store fetish!!
I too share the love a good grocery store and Harmon’s is the best. Coming from Chicago there used to be excellent local grocers but they have gone by the way of Albertsons and Smiths. All part of big national chains. I appreciate the buy local options, fresh butchered meats (with actual butchers), fresh fish and great produce at Harmons. Thank you Harmon’s for continuing your independent and fantastic grocery store for those who love to shop for groceries!
That’s great to know that we have grocery stores that match up to the quality you would get in a big city like Chicago!
I have become a loyal customer of Harmons after the opening of the new Farmington store! I love everything about their stores, especially their friendly and helpful employees. I can find items there that I cannot find in other stores.
Jocine, you were the winner of the Harmon’s gift certificate! Congratulations! Please email your address to slcfoodie at gmail. Thanks!
It is a truly beautiful store, and it will change the face of grocery shopping for many in the downtown area. One of the best reasons to drive to Draper was to go to cooking classes and buy gelato, two things now on offer in the convenient downtown location.
I have always thought that Harmons could do such good work making little Emigration Market style stores all over the Wasatch front, enabling a lot more people to eat fresh foods and source local produce. Here’s hoping that’s on their agenda, too
Harmons and I have a love/empty pocket book relationship. I love them, but they leave my pocketbooks empty!
I loved the Whole Foods on 400 South when I used to teach up there. Nice vibe and easy atmosphere. I love the open shopping though that City Creek provides and I’m looking forward to checking out Harmons up there!
Theres a such a big variety here..Smiths and Target are great for less crowds and better quality and Harmons is great for their meat (its so fresh!) But I have my favorite items at each store. I kind of wish there was one store that had everything I like!
Oh I know exactly what you mean. I often complete my grocery shopping after visiting 3 different stores!! And I agree that Harmon’s meat is great. I go to the Food Co-Op or Sunflower for cheap and fresh produce then occasionally to Smiths for cheap common groceries like milk, flour, sugar etc.
oh and I am now following SLC Foodie on Facebook! Thanks!
I love Harmons. I grew up shopping with my mom and Grandma at Harmons and Reams. Harmons was always a good store, but they’ve really kicked it up a notch!
I liked SLC Foodie on Facebook.
The new Harmons is great (despite their lack of bulk food section). My favorite: going on Sunday morning, grabbing a latte and muffin on the cafe level, then heading downstairs to do my shopping. Oh, and the gelato rocks too – they make it on site!
I kept walking around for like 15 minutes trying to find their bulk foods!! I was also shocked they didn’t have one!
And P.S. I liked SLC Foodie on Facebook
Harmon’s is, by far, the best major local supermarket chain. Wonderful breads, an excellent prepared foods section, and, oh, that dry-aged beef!
I have to say, I’m a bigger fan of Whole Foods, but I checked out the new City Creek Harmon’s recently because I work downtown, and enjoyed that the produce section is bigger there than it is at Emigration market Harmons, and they have great salad bar!
I work downtown, so the City Creek Harmons has been a welcome addition. Nice to have somewhere within walking distance to grab a healthy snack or something to supplement my packed lunch, or a missing ingredient for that night’s dinner!
P.S. I follow you on Facebook, too!
A great little foodie store is Liberty Heights! Probably not feasible for everyday shopping, but fabulous for very special ingredients, flowers and more!
I’ll have to go check it out, because I am not a fan of grocery shopping. Maybe it’s because I’ve never been to this Harmons….
You should definitely check it out! You might just change your mind about grocery shopping!
Jocine, congratulations, you won the gift certificate to Harmon’s! Thanks to everyone for visiting SLCfoodie. Stay tuned for more fun giveaways!
