There are two more weekends to catch Oktoberfest up at Snowbird Ski Resort. This was my first year to go (it has taken me 6 years!) but I was so glad we made went. I’m not sure why we haven’t been before, it contains several of our favorite things: being up in the mountains in the fall, good food from another country, music and dancing, and of course large steins of beers. Large being an understatement for some of the beer mugs we saw.
I especially love seeing the dedicated German folk, dressed from head to toe in traditional attire.
Although, I eat lots of vegetarian meals, I do enjoy a juicy German bratwurst from time to time. The ones they sell at Oktoberfest are especially good. I tried the Chicken Apple Sausage on a hoagie bun, which was slightly sweet and perfect with some whole grain mustard. There are also, pretzels, sauerkraut, German potato salad, apple strudel (pictured below), and German chocolate cake, all to be enjoyed at the festival.
More than the food, this festival is just a fun event to enjoy with a group of friends. We loaded up a couple of cars full of friends and spent the afternoon with each other. We met each others friends and our friends met our other friends’ friends. It was a time to eat, drink, and be merry.
Oktoberfest is also a great excuse to take a scenic drive through the mountains. This is the absolute perfect time to be in the mountains because the aspen trees are changing color and the mountains are turning all shades of fall. If you’re not into festivals or German food and beer, here is a good resource for some other scenic fall drives in Utah. My personal favorites are the Alpine Loop and Guardmans Pass.
we went a few weekends ago. it's such beautiful weather! it used to be a MUCH larger event here… it's really slimmed down but such a fun thing to get to every year!
I went years ago, and don't know why I haven't been back. I need to put it on my list!
I haven't been for years either. What a beautiful day!
