Chocolate in Salt Lake City

Reviewed by Becky

To go along with my Valentines Chocolate Series, I wanted to share with you a few of my favorite chocolate treats around Salt Lake City.

Hands down, my favorite chocolate cookie is Ruby Snap’s Chocolate Mole Cookie.  She made the cookie in partnership with the Rico Brand restaurant, Frida Bistro. The Frida Cookie is a mole cookie with a molten chile de arbol ganache center, topped with slow-roasted, cinnamon-toasted pepitas.
My favorite chocolate in town, comes in these pricey little squares at Liberty Heights Fresh and Caputo’s Market.  It is an Aztec Chile flavored chocolate dusted with grainy sea salt and studded with pumpkin seeds.
I think there is a trend in my taste buds for spicy chocolate.  At home I also bake this Spicy Chocolate Cake with Cheyenne Pepper and hot cocoa icing; my absolute favorite home-made chocolate cake.

For chocolate bar selection, Tony Caputo’s has most places beat!  The local Amano Chocolate brand has a bar called Ocumare, that I especially like. Or you could try something different like the bacon chocolate bar by Vosges. Caputo’s also sells a line of beautiful hand-crafted chocolates, Chocolatier Blue, that would make a lovely gift.

A few more favorites:

Pain au Chocolate from Les Madeleines. Their classic French chocolate croissants are filled with Valrhona Chocolate and are made fresh daily.

Chocolate Malt Pudding from Ruth’s Diner.  A tall parfait glass is filled to the brim with creamy milk chocolate pudding, just like your grandma used to make.

Marzipan filled Chocolates from Cummings Studio Chocolates.  This is my husband’s favorite chocolate treat.

What are some of your favorite local chocolates or chocolate desserts? I would love to hear!

  1. I love Amano bars. I'm down in Provo so every so often (or maybe more often than not) I head to their factory store for a new treat. If you're going to eat junk food, it might as well be gourmet!

  2. It used to be Beverly Hills flourless chocolate cake but has now changed names (Blossom, I think) but is available at Whole Foods by the refrigerated items. It is about 1-1 1/2" high and 5-6" wide and about $16. Do NOT eat it cold! It must be room temperature to get the full effect! To die for smooth and rich goodness!
