Front Runner Train – Ogden Bound

Reviewed by Becky

This weekend we celebrated my birthday by taking the new front runner train to Ogden, a city North of Salt Lake City about 1 hour. Two friends of ours, Ben and Nicole, climbed aboard with us and we were off to Ogden 1940’s style! I love trains, have I ever mentioned that? I love public transportation and especially old trains. I can imagine being alive in the days where traveling by train was the common way for transit and reading a book or newspaper on the way. Wearing a scarf and sunglasses and carring a small overnight travel bag. But this time it was a short day trip, no luggage in hand and no scarf, but we enjoyed our 1 hour smooth train ride to Ogden and then enjoyed old town Ogden on a Saturday afternoon. We walked through the the old train station and to Historic Main Street, which is filled with fun restaurants, antique stores, street vendors selling jewelry and other items, and a few bars and boutique shops. We dined at Roosters Brewing and Eatery, a great lunch or dinner spot with indoor and outdoor dining. And ofcourse, I chose to eat al fresco on their patio. They had green flowered tabled cloths and wire chairs surrounded by greenery and antique window frames on the exposed brick walls. For lunch I ordered the veggie sandwich which is served wtih lots of fresh veggies- carrots, asparagus, zuccini, red peppers and tomoatoes- with hummus on fresh herbed foccacia bread. I commonly order veggie sandwiches but this one was particularly good! I also had a side salad and although the lettuce was not as green as I would prefer, the creamy vinegarette dressing definitely made up for it. Josh ordered fish and chips, a generous portion of beer battered fish and chips with homemade tartar sauce and fresh cut fries. We all enjoyed our selections. After lunch we wandered around Main Street stores for a bit. We especially enjoyed the antique stores where we found treasures like vintage chairs, old beer steins, oil lamps, vintage postcards, and lots of good deals.
