Liberty Park Grill

Another rather unknown restaurant that commonly gets confused with another is the Liberty Park Grill. This small cozy cafe is in the center of Liberty Park just around the corner from the concession stand and along the middle walkway of the park. It could easily be confused with the popular Park Cafe, which is located on the South end across 1300 South from the park. Both serve basic breakfast and lunch items and contain the word Park in their titles and truthfully they are much alike. Much more alike than say La Caille and La Cai! They even serve very similar breakfast potatoes both called “park potatoes.” One Saturday morning recently we went for a stroll through the Park on the way to eat some breakfast at The Park Cafe and we stumbled across Liberty Park Grill. There are not many signs around it so you kind of have to just know that it is there. Seeing that it was open but not to busy we decided to check out The Park Cafe first and if they were too busy we’d come back. Soon enough we found out there was a long wait at the popular Park Cafe so we shamelessly walked back to Liberty Park Grill. Its basically a small room with windows on three sides in the middle of Salt Lake’s Central Park aka Liberty Park. For those of you who have yet to visit Liberty Park, one of the reasons why I love where I live so much, it is a 110 acre park and offers playgrounds, wood chip jogging paths, a bike path, tennis courts, a swimming pool, horseshoe pits, a small pond with ducks and rental paddle boats, picnic facilities, a carousel, and its own aviary(one of the only two public aviaries in North America). This small cafe overlooks the duck pond. The waiting staff, one really sweet down to earth lady, was very hospitable and friendly. Their menu is pretty simple but they do well at the items that are included. Some of their breakfast items are eggs, park potatoes, pancakes, berry blintzes, French toast, kids’ happy face pancakes, omelets, and croissant sandwiches. They also serve burgers, salads, and sandwiches for lunch. They are open most days in the summer and Saturday and Sunday 9-2pm in the winter. Still unknown to many, the cafe only had a few diners but those inside seemed to enjoy what was offered in terms of atmosphere and food. We promptly got our meal and enjoyed it over a cup of coffee and good Saturday morning conversation.
*Thanks Dana for the lovely photos and the wonderful company!
