Great Food Truck Race hit Salt Lake

Reviewed by Becky

Last week I got a one line email from the owner of Hodge Podge Food Truck letting me know they’d be in Salt Lake City for the Food Network’s Great Food Truck Race.  After doing a little research online I found out that several trucks would be participating including some local favorites like the Chow Truck. We had already planned on taking a weekend getaway to Eden, Utah, (more on that later) so we didn’t make it out to the food trucks on Saturday but we did catch up with some on Sunday.

We stopped by Coffee Connection on State Street to check out the Roxy Food Truck, selling gourmet grilled cheese from Boston. We also spotted Devilicious Food Truck from San Diego, serving up sinful foods like deep fried chili and their peanut butter angus burger.  The Hodge Podge Food Truck, from Cleveland, was also serving up comfort foods such as steak with mac n’ cheese.  The Lime Truck, from California, was dishing up some lighter, fresher fare such as goat cheese quesadillas and ahi tuna.  And if you’re not already stuffed just reading this, check out this truck, Cafe con Leche, specializing in Cuban cuisine.

I’m hoping that this weekend of food truck craze in Salt Lake will help loosen restrictions on local food trucks in Salt Lake causing more trucks to open and ease laws on where they can park.  If you’re just now hearing about the food truck rage, you must check out the local Chow Truck, serving up bold California Asian flavors daily in the Salt Lake Valley.  More info: Food Network’s Great Food Truck Race

  1. We had dinner last night at Korilla, the Korean BBQ truck from NYC. It was good although they had run out of kimchi. :( It was really funny watching them film the show; the producers kept asking the food truck guys to say they had run out of kimchi over and over again while they filmed. "OK, now say that again but do it like this…"

  2. I really wanted to go out, but didn't dare take my newborn out in the cold weather… :( I do want go go check out CHow, though – it's been on my list!

  3. we saw all of the buzz and craze all over town but it's our anniversary and we were celebrating dining out! such fun to have them all visit the SLC!

  4. We hit the trucks on Saturday, dividing and conquering with a group of friends due to long lines at Roxy's. Lime Truck was my least fave but Roxy's was delicious as was Cafe con Leche. I had three kids with me, so we didn't make it to Korilla or Hodge Podge, but I heard they were delicious!

  5. The Chow Truck is one of my favorite lunch spots and I really do hope that SLC considers lightening the restrictions to make it easier for other food truck entrepreneurs to make a go of it.

  6. So glad you could be a part of the foodie fun with us and Roxy's! It was a pretty crazy start but they had a great time here in SLC thanks to the support and enthusiasm our community readily shared :) And thank you for mentioning Coffee Connection in your blog! Real "tasteful" honor 😀 -Apryl the Coffee Cat

  7. Being busy all weekend I finally had time Sunday evening to check out the trucks. I found Hodgepodge at the Earth Jam festival in Liberty Park. They were sold out of a lot of things, with it being so late in the day. I did try their burger and I was extremely impressed- it was delicious!I also love Chow Truck and I hope to see more food trucks pop up here in SLC!
