Zy Food Wine and Cheese Restaurant in Salt Lake City

Zy Restaurant, Salt Lake City

What makes a restaurant special is often times the people you dine with.  Heather from SLC Lunches and I have been ‘lunching’ together for over two years now.  Our latest outing was to Zy in downtown Salt Lake City. Since we’ve known each other we have explored many local Salt Lake restaurants in their beginning stages, like Vinto, Sea Salt, and Ekamai.  Its been fun to venture out together and watch the local food scene advance and at the same time our friendship has developed over several good meals.

Zy specializes in wine and cheese.  Their menu presents you with an array of cheeses to experience from local Beehive Cheese to specialty Italian cheese. Most of their dishes also include one of their signature cheeses. If you like cheese, this is the place. Also, I will add that our dishes were well salted, which I enjoy but I know some prefer otherwise. Heather and I fully enjoyed every taste during this meal.
Our lunch at Zy started with some of the tastiest bread in town, brought out with a small dish of salted butter and olive oil.  I couldn’t get enough of this bread!  Not caring about my image I took what was left of the bread home with me to enjoy again.

I ordered the Classic Bib Salad with roasted stone fruit, pecans and goat cheese. The dish was beautifully presented and full-flavored with a balsamic dressing and generous amounts of creamy goat cheese.

I was selfishly glad Heather chose the Spinach, Mushroom and Goat Cheese Enchiladas because this was the other dish I really wanted to try.  The enchiladas were served old world style (with the tortillas layered flat instead of rolled) and smothered in fresh salsa verde.  They were equally as delicious as my salad.

The meal we enjoyed was fabulous, a bit spendy for my preference but well worth it for an occasional splurge.  Besides the thick crusty bread that I devoured and the perfectly roasted stone fruits on my salad, I enjoyed most of all, catching up with my friend Heather.  Sitting across the white draped table with dainty dishes and glasses between us, we shared life, the good and the bad, and we shared our love for dining adventures which there are always more to look forward to!

  1. Hi, nice review and pictures. I need to kick mine up a notch after seeing yours. We had two of the same things plus french onion soup and one of the cheese selections. Good stuff, cool restaurant.

  2. I just photographed a Yelp event and several of the reviewers from there recommended this place… after your great review I'm going to have to try it!!
