Nuch’s, Salt Lake City Utah

Reviewed by Becky

A few friends suggested I try out this new place in town call Nuch’s that just opened mid-March. I’m still confused at how to pronounce the name but the food makes up for all randomness in the name and location. It’s located right off I80 on 2300 East and 2800 South and I found out later that the name comes from the chef’s uncle, Nuch. It’s a tiny restaurant with just about 8 tables. The owner/chef used to be in the pizza business in the area and then decided to go a different direction until recently when he and his wife traveled to Italy on their honeymoon and rediscovered their passion for true Italian pizza and fresh ingredients. They brought their passion back with them and found this little storefront to create an Italian experience right in Salt Lake. Fresh tomato sauce made to order, homemade ricotta cheese, fresh dough for calzones and pizza, and homemade cheesecake and other desserts. We arrived at the perfect time, around 7:15pm, to enjoy the sunset while we devoured every bite of our calzones. Let me suggest the one table by the window (if its open) and you might want to go ahead an order extra tomato sauce on the side, because it that good, and it’s only a dollar extra. We tried the cheese calzone with pepperoni and the chicken, broccoli, mushroom calzone. For dessert we ordered strawberries with mascarpone! Finally a great place for calzones in Salt Lake! We’ll be back to try their pizza, that is if we can resist ordering a calzone!

  1. Loved this post about Nuch’s! I will defiantly be checking this out for myself . . . delicious! Thanks for checking my blog out- my daughter, did the design for me and continues to tutor me in all things about the blog world.

  2. Great Post. I’ve driven by that place multiple times and wondered what was going on there. I am so excited to give it a taste test.

  3. Thank you for the wonderful job you did describing Nuch's. I am creating a website for us and I have been unable to get pictures as wonderful as yours. May I have permission to use the calzones, dessert, and external shot? I will give you credit. THANKS!

  5. HORRIBLE SERVICE!!!!!!!My husband and I ate here for the first time on a Saturday. I got the chicken fetticini alfredo for $9.95. The following thursday I called in and asked for the specials that night, the girl who answered the phone asked me, "do you have internet?…go to our website to see the specials there". I thought that was strange and so I just called back to ask if they had chicken fetticini alfredo that night, which they did so I ordered takeout. When I picked it up the charge was $17.95 for the same entree….WHAT?!? I literally ordered the same thing 5 days ago and got charged $7.00 more.I then called in to talk to the owner about what happened and he told me that I was grossly undercharged earlier and I should feel lucky that I got that entree for that price. I said well, thats no way to run business and thats bad service…your servers don't know how much to charge patrons or what specials you have. He replied by telling me the conversation is over and hung up on me…I was in the service industry for 10 years and this is not how you treat customers. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND EATING AT THIS RESTAURANT!!!!!

  6. Last night one of our customers posted a negative report and we would like to respond to it. In short, she complained about our service during a phone in-order. In addition, she complained about being undercharged on her previous visit. Of note, the Fettuccine Alfredo with chicken breast was no longer on the special menu but we made it as a special order for her.I apologized for our server directing her to our website, and subsequently discussed the proper way to answer this request with our server. After K8 told me she was never coming back, I continued to converse with her to try and find out what she expected from us, but never got an answer.I don't understand the undercharge complaint. We checked our records, we keep all receipts, and found there was never an undercharge for the meal she had ordered. Her meal was $15.95 for Fettuccine Alfredo with chicken breast, and $1.25 tax for a total of $17.25. In addition, she left a tip on the takeout order and called back 20 minutes later to complain. She didn't say a word about the price or service when she was in the restaurant. We just want the readers to know that we take care of our customers and that K8 never complained about the food, and in fact had returned quickly indicating that her food and service were at least good on her previous visit. 7. We live right down the street, and actually as I type this are waiting for a takeout order to be made that we are running down there to grab. We have always received exemplary service from Nuch's – both eating in and eating out. Being business owners ourselves, we realize that there are just customers out there that you cannot appease, no matter what you do. The woman who went out of her way to post such negative comments just has a chip on her shoulders and you should be happy she won't be ordering from you anymore, it leaves you with more time and energy for those of us that love your food and love your service! Remember that 20% of your customers will take up 80% of your time (like the complainers out there) and that leaves only 20% of your time for the other 80% of customers that really truly see you are doing a great thing, not only for our tastebuds, but for our local economy and community as well. Only another business owner could truly understand what goes into running a business, and the fact that you see the owner in Nuch's every single day means that he is dedicated to giving Salt Lake what it needs in a great restaurant, and shame on any of those people who want to take time out of their day to say mean things. It's much more difficult to compliment than to complain, and I'm taking time to compliment, kudo's on a job well done Nuch's – a great addition to our neighborhood!Jess and Stan

  8. I Love Nuch's! The best pizzas and calzones in the valley, by far. I've never had anything but fantastic service and delicious food from this place. Help keep them going! Our town needs it!

  9. My mom and I had a lovely lunch a Nuch's today! It's such a nice little place and the service was great! I fell in love with the pesto cream salad dressing and used it for a dipping sauce for my calzone. Thanks for the recommendation!
